You Gotta Break Away

Carolyn has been an active participant in events that support non profit, social service and child focused training organizations. Whether as an actress, vocalist, writer, director, producer or organizer she is very committed to public service and making a difference. For several years Carolyn has worked with the Network for Women’s Lives, now an Education and Outreach Program of the Domestic Violence Services Network (DVSN), initially as an actress in the Network’s 2005 benefit production of the Vagina Monologues. Subsequently, believing strongly in their vision and mission to help raise awareness about domestic violence in our communities through violence prevention education and outreach, she became more involved with the Network by performing at benefits to help raise funds for the organization, joining their Board of Director’s.

Further, inspired by her work with domestic violence organizations, Carolyn recently wrote a song about domestic violence and its effects on individuals called "You Gotta Break Away" which is an urging for those who find themselves in abusive situations to take charge, take steps, seek help, and to 'break away'.

Since writing 'You Gotta Break Away' Carolyn has been sharing it at vigils, conferences and other forums which address this vital concern. She has been touched not only by the emotional responses to the song by vigil and conference attendees, but most especially by the many women who have shared their stories and personal experiences with her after hearing it. It is now being used in women's domestic violence work groups as a way to help and encourage women to take that next step.

Carolyn has now recorded the song and it is available for purchase. If you would like to order copies of You Gotta Break Away, please click on the link to Carolyn's CD Store on your left.

If you are interested in having Carolyn perform You Gotta Break Away at an upcoming conference, workshop or special event please e-mail Carolyn at cwatersmusic@aol.com and leave a detailed message which includes dates, details and contact information.

You Gotta Break Away

Carolyn Waters Obin ©2009

He wounds, he mars he doesn’t hit, but still he leaves the scars

He stabs, he hones he breaks the spirit down, but not the bones

He waits, he shames her life is hell, but he says she’s the blame

She hides, she cries she sits and watches as the world goes by

She craves, she dreams she wishes he was truly what he seemed

She feels no song the music in her life is all but gone

You gotta break away fly above and never let the hate replace the love

Take a chance, make it real You gotta let it go so you can heal

They hoped, dreamed clear they thought that they could make it through the years

Things changed, went wrong life happened and the strife outweighed the strong

Then hate, so strong a heavy burden where their hearts belonged

You gotta break away fly above and never let the hate replace the love

Take a chance, make it real You gotta let it go so you can heal

You gotta break away

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Highlights of DVSN Candlelight Vigil to remember those whose lost there lives in domestic violence incidents in 2008.
http://www.wickedlocal.com/lincoln/news/lifestyle/x593083677/Vigil-is-call-to-action
http://www.domesticviolenceroundtable.org/domestic-violence-roundtable-news.html
What People Say:
"Carolyn's beautiful voice and spirit have been an inspiration to all who have had the pleasure of being in the audience!
