Strike A Chord for Rosie's Place

Strike a Chord Concerts for Charity organized a concert to benefit Rosie's Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women. Women musicians from MetroWest and Greater Boston participated in the benefit concert at La Carreta Mexican Restaurant, 270 Cochituate Road in Framingham, on Saturday, April 2, from 4 to 10 p.m.

"Our Finest Gifts: Happy Holidays from the Greater Boston Music Scene" is a double cd of Christmas songs, Hanukkah songs, Winter songs, Festive Seasonal songs, New Years Songs and Spiritual songs recorded to raise money and publicity for SmallCanBeBig.org, an internet based Massachusetts charity that assists families on the brink of homelessness. This project was further supported by a series of live holiday concerts throughout Massachusetts in the Winter of 2010. Carolyn contributed an original song to the project "A Family Christmas" and was thrilled to participate in a number of the holiday concerts.

Parkinson's Disease Benefit

Parkinson Disease Benefit took place at Sally O’Brien’s in Somerville, Ma on November 17, 2010 to raise funds for the Parkinson's Disease Association of America.

Included in the action packed musical lineup were Sean Danehy, Jackie Damsky, Bill McQuaid, Larry Flint, Chuck Parrish, Charles Williams, Bo Veaner and Carolyn Waters. A great time was had by all!

Melrose Alliance Against Violence (MAAV)

Formed in 1995, the Melrose Alliance Against Violence (MAAV) is a non-profit, community-based organization that focuses on outreach, education and community collaboration in order to raise awareness of the problems of bullying, teen dating and domestic violence. Working closely with the Melrose Police Department, their Board of Directors includes representatives from the police, schools, clergy, hospital, business community, Health Department, students, parents and community members at large.

Programs include community awareness activities, outreach and support for victims, training for parents and professionals, and education and prevention programs for youth.

Domestic Violence Services Network Candlelight Vigil - First Parish in Concord

On October 6, 2009, at First Parish in Lincoln, Domestic Violence Services Network (DVSN) and the Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable, co-sponsored a vigil to commemorate the lives of 23 women, children and men lost to domestic violence in Massachusetts. We again came together in October to commemorate the lives lost in 2010 and in hopes that these types of vigils will soon be a thing of the past.

Carolyn has been an active participant in events that support non profit, social service and child focused training organizations. Whether as an actress, vocalist, writer, director, producer or organizer she is very committed to public service and making a difference. For several years Carolyn has worked with the Network for Women’s Lives, now an Education and Outreach Program of the Domestic Violence Services Network (DVSN), initially as an actress in the Network’s 2005 benefit production of the Vagina Monologues. Subsequently, believing strongly in their vision and mission to help raise awareness about domestic violence in our communities through violence prevention education and outreach, she became more involved with the Network by performing at benefits to help raise funds for the organization, joining their Board of Director’s.

Further, inspired by her work with domestic violence organizations, Carolyn recently wrote a song about domestic violence and its effects on individuals called "You Gotta Break Away" which is an urging for those who find themselves in abusive situations to take charge, take steps, seek help, and to 'break away'.

Since writing 'You Gotta Break Away' Carolyn has been sharing it at vigils, conferences and other forums which address this vital concern. She has been touched not only by the emotional responses to the song by vigil and conference attendees, but most especially by the many women who have shared their stories and personal experiences with her after hearing it. It is now being used in women's domestic violence work groups as a way to help and encourage women to take that next step.
