On October 6, 2009, at First Parish in Lincoln, Domestic Violence Services Network (DVSN) and the Sudbury-Wayland-Lincoln Domestic Violence Roundtable, co-sponsored a vigil to commemorate the lives of 23 women, children and men lost to domestic violence in Massachusetts. We will again come together in October to commemorate the lives lost in 2010 and in hopes that these types of vigils will soon be a thing of the past.

I will do a couple of numbers at the WUMB Gala which features Judy Collins and Tom Rush on August 11th at the UMass Boston Campus Center Ballroom. Please see details below and I really hope that you will consider coming out and supporting a very good cause!
Two luminaries of the music world will be on hand to assist in the launch of WUMB's new $7 million Capital Campaign*, in an intimate event on August 11th. Join us for a memorable evening of fine dining and exquisite music at the UMass Boston Campus Center Ballroom, with performances by Judy Collins and Tom Rush. Kenny White also performs and there will be a special Raffle.

Multiple grammy award-winner Judy Collins has thrilled audiences worldwide with her unique blend of interpretative folksongs and contemporary themes. Her impressive career has spanned more than 40 years. At 13, Judy Collins made her public debut performing Mozart's "Concerto for Two Pianos" but it was the music of such artists as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, as well as the traditional songs of the folk revival, that sparked Judy Collins' love of lyrics. She soon moved away from the classical piano and began her lifelong love with the guitar. In 1961, Judy Collins released her first album, A Maid of Constant Sorrow, at the age of 22. In addition to dozens of albums and CD's she has written several books and is about to come out with a new CD and a children's book this summer.
Tom Rush's impact on the American music scene has been profound. He helped shape the folk revival in the '60s and the renaissance of the '80s and '90s, his music having left its stamp on generations of artists. James Taylor told Rolling Stone, "Tom was not only one of my early heroes, but also one of my main influences." Country music star Garth Brooks has credited Rush with being one of his top five musical influences. Rush has long championed emerging artists. His early recordings introduced the world to the work of Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne and James Taylor. Tom's distinctive guitar style, wry humor and warm, expressive voice have made him both a legend and a lure to audiences around the world. His shows are filled with the rib-aching laughter of terrific story-telling, the sweet melancholy of ballads and the passion of gritty blues. Tom also has released about two dozen albums and CD's, including his first studio album in over 30 years which was released last year.

A fixture in the NY studio scene, Kenny White wrote and produced hundreds of commercials for TV and radio, and has worked with artists like Gladys Knight, Linda Ronstadt, Dwight Yoakam, Ricky Skaggs and Aaron Neville. He produced Shawn Colvin Grammy-nominated, “I Don’t Know Why” as well as three records for Peter Wolf. After being hailed by reviewers from the NY Times to the SF Chronicle for his thrilling and unique piano playing, he made his first album in 2002. He’s opened shows for Cheryl Wheeler, Shawn Colvin, Peter Wolf, Richard Shindell and Jonathan Edwards, quickly gaining a reputation as a ‘dazzling’ and ‘not-to-be-missed’ performer.
